Mike Gordon :: 02.16.18:: Teragram Ballroom :: Los Angeles, CA

On Friday night, bassist Mike Gordon continued a West Coast-focused tour with the first of two shows at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. The co-founding member of Phish’s solo band features Robert Walter on keyboards, Craig Myers on percussion, John Kimock on drums and Scott Murawski on guitar. Mike and his band mixed songs from the bassist’s solo repertoire with covers in L.A.

The quintet opened with “Long Black Line” off 2014’s Overstep. Next up was “Just A Rose” from Max Creek, Murawski’s other band. OGOGO, the latest Mike Gordon album, was first represented on Friday by “Steps” ahead of a well-jammed “Surface,” a track recorded for Overstep. Walter’s “Treat Dust” was then followed by “Traveled Too Far” from 2008’s The Green Sparrow and a set-closing “Crazy Sometimes.”

Mike Gordon kicked off the second set with OGOGO’s “Go Away” and the Max Creek classic “Jones.” It was then back to Overstep for “Ether” before the group played the Gordon/Murawski co-write “Take It As It Comes” and took a cover of Talking Heads’ “Cities” deep. “Pendulum” brought the second set to a close, while Gordon & Co. covered Here We Go Magic’s “How Do I Know?” as the evening’s encore. Mike Gordon concludes his visit to Los Angeles on Saturday night. Check out a full gallery of photos by Rob Chapman:
