Medeski Martin & Wood Shows Postponed Due To Medical Emergency

We’re saddened to report that an upcoming set of Medeski Martin & Wood shows scheduled for New York City have been postponed. Bassist Chris Wood recently underwent emergency surgery, which has led to the shows being cancelled.

MMW were set to celebrate their 25th anniversary with three guest-filled shows at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City between October 18 – 20. The news comes after a series of The Wood Brothers shows were cancelled. MMW has moved the dates to January 16 – 18, 2017. All current ticketholders will be notified this Monday, October 17 on how to transfer tickets.

Here’s the full statement:

We’re very sorry to announce the shows scheduled for Oct 18 – 20 at LPR in New York City have been postponed. On Tuesday Oct, 11 Chris Wood was hospitalized in Charleston, SC (while on tour) with an intestinal blockage. He remained there with various life support systems in place to see if it would resolve on it’s own, but on Friday, Oct 14 it was determined that he needed to have surgery. Fortunately, surgery went very well – the trouble was caused by scar tissue from an operation he had when he was 9 years old. It wasn’t obvious before, but now we know Chris Wood is a mere mortal. Doctor’s orders, he must rest.

WE’RE VERY SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. We know many people were traveling for these shows and looking forward to celebrating MMW’s 25th anniversary with us in New York. The shows have been rescheduled for January 16 – 18, 2017. All current ticket holders will be notified on Monday, October 17 with further instructions on how to transfer tickets for the January dates. All current ticket buyers will be given first priority on claiming tickets to the new dates. Per day allotments will be first come, first serve basis. No additional tickets will be released at this time.

Our thoughts are with Chris Wood on a speedy recovery.
