Margo Price Joins Kris Kristofferson At Surprise Newport Folk Festival Set

Yesterday, legendary musician Kris Kristofferson made a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. During the set, up-and-coming country performer Margo Price joined the 80-year-old singer-songwriter on his best-known composition.

Introduced by Newport organizer Jay Sweet before Kristofferson took over the Museum Stage, the former told the tale of the latter’s debut appearance at the 1969 edition of the storied music festival which came about at the urging of Johnny Cash. The surprise set followed a Museum Stage performance by Kristofferson’s daughter Kelly Kristofferson’s band Appalachian Murder Bunnies.

Early into the performance, the elder Kristofferson was joined by Price on vocals on his well-known classic “Me And Bobby McGee.” The collaboration at Fort Adams State Park was captured by audience member cstoltze, watch here:
