Margo Price Plays Jerry Garcia’s Guitar & Covers Grateful Dead In San Francisco

Margo Price brought her Wild At Heart Tour to the Grateful Dead's hometown of San Francisco on Saturday (March 7). The singer-songwriter paid tribute to the Dead during her concert at The Fillmore by covering three of their songs and using two iconic Jerry Garcia guitars.

Price and bandmates guitarists Sean Thompson and Logan Ledger, drummer Brandon Combs and bassist Alec Newnam went heavy on covers at The Fillmore, as they played songs by George Jones (“I Just Don’t Give A Damn”), Andrew Combs (“Too Stoned To Cry”), Waylon Jennings (“Kissing You Goodbye”), Blaze Foley (“Oval Room”) and Bob Dylan (“Maggie’s Farm”) in addition to the Grateful Dead tunes. The rest of the setlist consisted of eight songs from Margo’s 2025 album Hard Headed Woman and three off her 2016 debut Midwest Farmer’s Daughter.

Margo Price performed her first public take on the Pigpen-sung GD classic “Easy Wind” early on. Price started the song on Jerry Garcia’s 1943 Martin D-28 before hopping on double drums with Brandon Combs, while Sean Thompson ripped it up on Garcia’s Alligator. Both instruments came on loan from Andy Logan and the Grateful Guitars Foundation.

Later, Logan Ledger handled lead vocals on Margo Price’s recently debuted “Ripple” cover. “Casey Jones,” the third Grateful Dead cover of the evening, trailed two songs behind. The version of the Workingman’s Dead gem featured Price on lead vocals and drums. Margo Price hadn’t performed “Casey Jones” since 2019 according to Setlist.FM. Price the brought out opener Shannon McNally to join for the “Maggie’s Farm” finale.
