Maren Morris appeared on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show on Wednesday. The singer-songwriter honored late Fleetwood Mac member Christine McVie with a performance of “Songbird.”
Christine McVie sadly died on November 30, 2022. While she penned several of Fleetwood Mac’s timeless hits, “Songbird” was singularly McVie’s signature song. She performed “Songbird” live solo on piano in much the same way she recorded it for Fleetwood Mac’s landmark 1977 album, Rumours.

And Christine did it in one take, as Morris pointed out on Howard Stern when speaking about what the song means to her.
“I just think of my son,” Marren said. “[Songbird] obviously has this somber quality to the take because it’s a one take recording. But I think my favorite thing when I was looking at why she wrote this, or how she wrote this. It wasn’t about anyone in particular. It’s about nobody and everybody. And those are the best songs. They’re universal, they don’t have to be specific. It just makes you feel something so deeply.”
