Tourmates The Marcus King Band and Penelope Road continued their collaborative ways last night in Buffalo, New York. The groups came together for a rendition of the Bob Seger classic “Night Moves.”
The concert at Outer Harbor Live at Terminal B was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was moved to Monday due to inclement weather. Marcus King Band kicked off their set on Monday with a cover of Grand Funk Railroad‘s “Sin’s A Good Man’s Brother.” They also offered several cuts from their new album Darling Blue, including “Carolina Honey,” “Levis & Goodbyes” and “Blue Ridge Mountain Moon.”
Following the latter, Marcus King Band brought up Penelope Rose for their collaborative song. MKB and Penelope Road have been traversing the Northeast together over the last couple weeks. During their recent show at The Met in Philadelphia, the bands teamed up for a performance of the Grateful Dead-covered blues standard “New Minglewood Blues.”
On the shores of Lake Erie, the bands selected the title track from Bob Seger’s 1976 album Night Moves. The song saw guitarist Marcus King and Penelope Road guitarist Max Moore swapping verses ahead of the song’s rousing coda.
The MKB then went it alone for favorites from King’s catalog “Wildflowers & Wine” and “Honky Tonk Hell” to wrap the main set. The band returned to encore with a cover of The Allman Brothers Band hit “Ramblin’ Man.”
