Marcus King brought his band to Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, Florida for a concert on Tuesday night. King welcomed fellow guitarist Duane Betts to share the stage on an encore that began with an inciendiary version of the The Allman Brothers Band classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.”

Duane’s father, ABB co-founding guitarist Dickey Betts, wrote the instrumental “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” The song was originally released on The Allman Brothers Band’s sophomore studio album, 1970’s Idlewild South. Both Duane and Dickey Betts reside in Florida not too far from St. Petersburg.

The 10-minute “Liz Reed” on Tuesday contained plenty of fretboard fireworks from King and Betts. After each taking solos, the pair of young guitarists traded fiery licks to lead into a drum break by Jack Ryan.

Marcus King and Duane Betts followed “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” by barrelling through “Comin’ Home” to close the concert. Eric Clapton wrote “Comin’ Home” with the husband-and-wife duo of Bonnie Bramlett and Delaney Bramlett.
