Rockers The Magpie Salute will issue their debut studio album of original material High Water I via Mascot/Eagle Rock on August 10. The group has released a lyric video for the LP’s lead single, “Send Me An Omen.”

Rich Robinson brought fellow Black Crowes alums guitarist Marc Ford and bassist Sven Pipien as well as vocalist John Hogg, keyboardist Matt Slocum and drummer Joe Magistro into Dark Horse Studios in Nashville to record the 12-track effort. High Water I follows the 2017 release of a self-titled effort mostly recorded in front of an audience in Woodstock, New York.

While the group toured as a ten-piece last year, Rich decided to enter the studio with a core band. “Touring as a ten-piece is cool, but it’s more like a revue,” said Robinson in a statement. “Everything on stage was great. When you’re ready to record, there’s a lot of space that needs to be considered though. We didn’t want it to get too chaotic or too hard to sift through. The core was really important and needed to shine as a strong six-piece. It was great to build something new last year. We were born in a sense. Now, we’re working towards something as a tight unit.”

The album’s lead single features hints of the sound that helped The Black Crowes achieve massive success. “‘Send Me An Omen,’ to me, wraps up all of the elements of this band,” says Robinson. “There’s pure rock ‘n roll juxtaposed with these pop melodies sung with a melancholy that creates this beautiful balance of surreal dark and light.” Look for The Magpie Salute to issue High Water II in 2019.
