The first night of the 2024 CMA Fest earlier this month at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium had a rock bent as Lynyrd Skynyrd headlined. Skynyrd welcomed guitarist Billy Gibbons from fellow legendary band ZZ Top to perform J.J. Cale’s “Call Me The Breeze” during the set. Official video of the collaboration has been shared and can be viewed below.
The CMA Fest is the largest country music festival in the world. Over 300 performers played multiple stages in downtown Nashville and at Nissan Stadium between June 6 and 9. A three-hour special featuring the best performances hosted by Jelly Roll and Ashley McBryde aired on ABC last night. The special can be streamed on Hulu.

J.J. Cale originally wrote and released “Call Me The Breeze” as the opening track on his 1972 debut album, Naturally. Lynyrd Skynyrd adapted the song for inclusion on the band’s 1974 LP, Second Helping. “Call Me The Breeze” has been a staple of Skynyrd’s live shows since 1973.
Billy Gibbons emerged in the middle of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s hit-filled set on June 6 at Nissan Stadium to shred on “Call Me The Breeze.” The crowd went wild as Gibbons strung together one potent riff after another. Then, Skynyrd guitarist Damon Johnson ripped a powerful solo of his own.
