Birmingham, Alabama native Lonnie Holley returns with his forthcoming studio album, Oh Me Oh My, due out March 10 via Jagjaguwar. Holley unveiled the title track from the 11-song collection, which includes vocals from Michael Stipe.

Stipe is just one of the guests who contributed to the Jacknife Lee-produced Oh Me Oh My. Sharon Van Etten, Moor Mother, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Rokia Koné also duet with Holley for songs found on the follow-up to 2018’s MITH.

Lonnie Holley, a musician and artist whose visual art is featured in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and National Gallery of Art, shares tales from his tough times growing up in the Jim Crow South. Lee would work with Holley to talk about the stories behind each song and then pull out the essence for inclusion on Oh Me Oh My.

“My art and my music are always closely tied to what is happening around me, and the last few years have given me a lot to thoughtsmith about,” explained Holley in press materials. “When I listen back to these songs I can feel the times we were living through. I’m deeply appreciative of the collaborators, especially Jacknife, who helped the songs take shape and really inspired me to dig deeper within myself.”

“Oh Me Oh My” is a powerful composition mixing the distinctive voices of Holley and Stipe. Lonnie reflects on his childhood and the lessons he’s learned such as “how precious life is” and shares, “the deeper we go, the more chances there are, for us to understand the oh-me’s and understand the oh-my’s.” View the official visualizer for the track below:
