The Limboos: Baia

Hey, have you heard? JamBase turned 20! I think that calls for some party music. Here are four excellent new releases perfect for dancing of all styles. I’m sure you’ll find something good in here, starting with The Limboos. These guys are (somehow) from Madrid, but sound more like they’re from a house party in the ’60s. Organ groovies, guitar sizzle, bopping rhythm and heady horns make Baia, their newest release, the perfect way to get everyone on the dance floor showing off their old school moves.

Kelly Finnigan: The Tales People Tell

While we’re keeping things in throwback mode, have you heard the new album from Kelly Finnigan yet? Finnigan is the lead singer for San Francisco groove merchants Monophonics and his debut solo record, The Tales People Tell, feels like a natural extension. This one is 10 tracks just dripping in sexy soul, perfect to keep your dance floor populated, from sweaty boogie-downs to ladies-choice cool-downs. You can feel Finnigan channeling all the soul and R&B heroes while the band keeps the heat on simmer. Check it out, I think you’ll dig it.

Thor De Force: Sounds Of The Mansion

Of course, we can get groovy without looking too far back in time and my next rec is a little more forward-looking, and more likely not on your radar quite yet. The artist is Thor Madsen, from Copenhagen (you know how the RecommNeds loves Denmark!), who performs as Thor De Force. The record is called Sounds Of The Mansion and is both a party for between the ears and your head-to-toe. Madsen’s songs are collages of acid jazz and funk, hip hop and electronica. A little bit different, but a whole lotta awesome, I do hope you enjoy.

Dexter Story: Bahir

As the party winds down, we’ll need something to take us into the wee hours and, naturally, I’ve got just the thing. Dexter Story is a Los Angeles musician who fuses African and electronic music to fascinating ends. His newest is Bahir and straddles the line between chilldown hallucination and pure rhythm body-movers. There are many ways to get lost in this one, but don’t worry, breadcrumbs of groove are always there to help you get back home. No matter how you partake, the recs are here to bring the party to you, so let’s celebrate, friends.
