Watch Robert Plant Sing ‘Stairway To Heaven’ For 1st Time Since 2007

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant rarely sings “Stairway To Heaven,” but the vocalist performed the band’s iconic song on Saturday at a benefit concert for The Cancer Platform. The intimate event held at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, England was organized by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor.

Taylor, who revealed in 2022 that he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer, played guitar and sang while backed by his son Andy J. Taylor on guitar, Kenwyn House on guitar, Guy Pratt on bass, David Palmer on drums, Anne Rani on vocals and Dino Jelusick on keyboards. Among the other participants was English singer-songwriter Ella Henderson who sang two of her songs with the band as well.

Plant came out to lead the ensemble through the Led Zeppelin classics “Thank You” and “Black Dog.” The unexpected performance of “Stairway To Heaven” followed.

“Bet I enjoyed that more than him,” Taylor said, as noted by Ultimate Classic Rock.

Plant responded to Taylor, stating:

“Well, I know that in this contemporary age of digital stuff, there’s every likelihood that other people will see that. So, if they do I offer it up to you [Taylor] and your success and to the whole deal that has happened here and the future of it all.

“And also so that it’s not just that, I offer it up to Led Zeppelin. Wherever they are.”

Plant then told a story about selling a car to Donovan before singing “Season of the Witch,” which led into Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth.”

Prior to Saturday’s rendition of “Stairway To Heaven,” the last time Plant performed the centerpiece of Led Zeppelin’s 1971 album, Led Zeppelin IV, is believed to have occurred at the band’s 2007 reunion at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at the O2 Arena in London.
