Watch Lebo, Eggy & Holly Bowling Go ‘Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley’ At High Sierra Music Festival

One of the defining elements of what makes the High Sierra Music Festival so special are the themed Artist Playshops that take place in the air-conditioned comfort of the High Sierra Music Hall. ALO guitarist and longtime HSMF vet Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) has been putting together “Lebo: 50 Years In The Rearview” playshops devoted to songs released a half-century prior prior at the last several festivals and his tribute to 1974 on Saturday afternoon included a take on the Allen Toussaint-penned “Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley” featuring Eggy, keyboardist and percussionist Gary Kehoe.

Eggy made their High Sierra debut last summer before embarking of their first West Coast headlining tour the following September. The rising Connecticut-based quartet moved from the Vaudeville Stage in 2023 to the larger Big Meadow Stage in 2024. Eggy also got in on the Artist Playshop action last year by presenting “Carry On: A CSNY Tribute.”

Lebo was the “king” of High Sierra Music Festival 2024 as he performed at multiple playshops, took the stage with ALO and made a variety of guest appearances in his Artist-At-Large role. The guitarist spoke about first meeting Eggy at last year’s festival and crossing paths with the band several times over the year that followed before bringing them out on Saturday.

While “Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley” actually dates back to 1970, the song was popularized four years later by Robert Palmer. “Sneakin’ Sally” was the title track of Palmer’s 1974 debut solo album. The Meters and Little Feat guitarist Lowell George backed Palmer on “Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley.” Additionally, The Meters were Lee Dorsey’s backing band on the original version of the tune put out on the Toussaint-produced Yes We Can.
