Kung Fu Present Tribute To Hip-Hop For 6th Toys For Tots Shows

Connecticut’s own funk-fusion band Kung Fu continued a tradition this past Saturday night by hosting their 6th annual Toys For Tots benefit concert. The band played the familiar confines of Toad’s Place in New Haven on the 19th and asked fans to bring toys to be distributed to the less fortunate this holiday season. For this year’s concert Kung Fu recruited friends to pay tribute to the hip-hop world.

Kung Fu was joined by MC Jack Brown of Sophistafunk as well as The Funky Dawgz Horns, Elizabeth Dillinger and Johnny Durkin (Deep Banana Blackout) for the part of their show devoted to hip-hop. Guitarist Tim Palmieri, keyboardist Beau Sasser, bassist Chris DeAngelis, drummer Adrian Tramontano and saxophonist Rob Somerville and their guests covered such songs as Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power,” Eric B. & Rakim’s “Don’t Sweat The Technique,” Digable Planet’s “Cool Like That” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems” over the course of the 48-minute set.
