Friday was a big day for KIMOCK as the project began a series of June dates and released a new track. A variation of the band known as Kimock & Friends that kicked off a June Tour at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California with the first of two shows on Friday features guitarist Steve Kimock, drummer John Kimock, bassist Andy Hess and multi-instrumentalist Leslie Mendelson.
John Kimock produced and mixed a new track entitled “Invocations 1.” He also played all the keyboards, synth bass and drums on the song, which features Steve Kimock on guitar and ebo feedback as well as Justin Mazer (Ryan Montbleu, Starbird) and Patrick Biondo (Cabinet, Gatos Blancos) on guitar as well as Josh Weinstein (Kat Wright) on bass. Kimock used W.A. Mathieu’s 1981 solo piano record “Streaming Wisdom” as both the intro and the piano loop used throughout the tune. Listen to the new Kimock track “Invocations 1”:

Kimock & Friends opened Friday’s concert with “Careless Love” from 2017’s Satellite City. Saxophonist Rob Sudduth was the band’s first guest and contributed to early blues standard “Trouble In Mind.” ALO guitarist Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz then emerged for the Everly Brothers’ “Gone, Gone, Gone.” Next, Steve took to the mic to introduce a version of one of his favorite George Harrison songs, “I’d Have You Anytime” featuring Lebo. Vocalist Jessica Fierro came out after the Harrison cover to help out on Lebo’s “I Wanna Feel It” ahead of a set-closing sequence of Buddy Holly’s “Well Alright” and the “Philadelphia Mambo”/”Sun Sun Sun” pairing.
The core Kimock & Friends band came out after the setbreak to kick off the second set with Satellite City track “Variation” before Lebo returned to add to “Mother’s Song.” Mendelson then led the group on a fierce cover of Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down.” The set rolled on with a blissful “Sisters & Brothers” featuring Lebo, Rob Sudduth and Jessica Fierro. Kimock & Friends ended the night by pulling from the Bob Dylan catalog for “Watching The River Flow” and the Grateful Dead catalog for “They Love Each Other.”
