‘Modern Girl’: Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein Joins Kevin Morby In Portland

Kevin Morby was joined onstage by Carrie Brownstein at a sold-out Revolution Hall in Portland on Tuesday. Brownstein, a co-founder of Sleater-Kinney, led Morby and his band through “Modern Girl.”
Morby is currently on tour in support of Little Wide Open, his latest album, released last week on Dead Oceans. His band’s lineup includes guitarist Liam Kazar, saxophonist Cochema, bassist Cole Berggren, violinist/keyboardist Camellia Hartman and drummer Dominic Billett. The tour continues through mid-July with dates across North America before heading to Europe.
Brownstein recorded “Modern Girl” for Sleater-Kinney’s 2005 album, The Woods. The Portlandia co-star referenced the song in the title of her 2015 memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl.
Morby stepped back from vocal duties and accompanied Brownstein on harmonica while the crowd joined in on the sing-along. Watch Carrie Brownstein and Kevin Morby perform Sleater-Kinney’s “Modern Girl” together in Portland:
