John Scofield will dig into the funky, groove-based corners of his catalog this fall a new run dubbed Electrospective. Scofield will be joined by a stacked lineup featuring Adam Deitch on drums, Oteil Burbridge on bass and Larry Goldings on keys.
Scofield will revisit songs from his Blue Matter, Überjam and A Go Go bands as well as perform new groove-forward material at each show. The guitarist aims to breathe fresh life into the compositions rather than replicate the originals.
Longtime Scofield collaborator Adam Deitch confirmed his participation in the shows on social media after an Electrospective concert at Cincinnati’s Ludlow Garage on October 15 was announced. The full list of dates and an announcement from John Scofield is forthcoming.
“Well I guess nows the time to announce i will be doing a few weeks of shows with my favorite mentor and guitar genius John Scofield in the fall,” Deitch wrote. “We will be exploring his electric funky tunes as an “Electrospective” with organist Larry Goldings (listen to Life on Planet groove by Maceo parker, thats him on keys AND left hand bass!) On bass guitar we have another mentor, friend and limitless bassist Oteil Burbridge who i am very excited to play with. Full list of dates to be announced soon. This will an EPIC run!! Stoked!!”
Deitch first teamed up with John Scofield in the early 2000s after Eric Krasno recommended the talented drummer for a new electric band Sco was putting together. The group, with Deitch behind the kit, became the Überjam band and went on to tour the world and cut three albums together. The two have reconnected several times over the years, including Deitch tapping Scofield as a guest on multiple The Adam Deitch Quartet albums.
John Scofield also has a long history of performing and recording with Larry Goldings. The acclaimed keyboardist was a member of the guitarist’s quartet in the mid ’90s. Goldings later contributed to Scofield’s 2011 studio album, A Moment’s Peace after the pair were both members of drummer Jack DeJohnette’s Trio Beyond. More recent collaborations came as part of supergroup Scary Goldings.
Oteil Burbridge and John Scofield’s paths have alo intersected. Scofield made a stellar guest appearance with The Allman Brothers Band featuring Burbridge on bass at The Beacon Theatre on March 18, 2011.
Stay tuned for more information and full dates for this exciting project.
