John Popper Addresses His Old Beef With Chris Robinson

Blues Traveler frontman John Popper has been doing the rounds with press to talk about his new memoir Suck & Blow: And Other Stories I’m Not Supposed To Tell. Popper recently visited the SiriusXM studios for an interview that will air Saturday, April 9 at 3 p.m. ET on Sit Down with Alfred and Chris (Insight, Ch. 121). Among the topics discussed was John’s old beef with former Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.

The “beef” dates back to the ’90s and hit its peak in 2001 when Popper and Robinson were booked, separately, as guests on Howard Stern. Both men took shots at each other with Robinson calling Popper a “novelty act” and John taking a shot at Chris’s talent. John said of Chris, “the only dick I’ve ever met in rock and roll,” while Robinson said of Popper, “I don’t like his band…I don’t like him.” Here’s what went down on Howard Stern in 2001:

John revealed on Sit Down with Alfred and Chris that he’s put his beef with Robinson behind him. The pair ran into each other at an airport a few years back and Popper feels Chris has mellowed. The harmonica player blamed the issue on drugs without going into too much detail. Here’s what John had to say about Chris Robinson as well as the curse of playing “Hook” every show for 20+ years:

Be sure to tune in to SiriusXM’s Channel 121 at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday for the entire interview.
