John Mayer Shows Appreciation For Dead & Company Fan At Jones Beach

Guitarist John Mayer continued The Search For Everything tour on Wednesday night at Northwell Health At Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. Mayer took a moment during the show to call out and show appreciation for a fan who, according to John, has attended every Dead & Company show.

Wednesday’s show took similar form to other shows on the tour including acoustic, full band and John Mayer Trio segments. The first part of the show included a version of “Something Like Olivia” that was preceded by a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “China Cat Sunflower.” Mayer took a moment before the show to mention he had seen his first concert at the venue back in 1996.

Late in the show John Mayer called out a loyal fan ahead of “Why Georgia.” John stepped to the mic and said, “I’d actually like to thank this gentleman right here in the headband. This gentleman has been at every Dead & Company show, every show. Not almost every show – there’s maybe four or five people that I saw at every show. And I’ll tell you something, I’ve looked to you at times when I wasn’t sure that I really knew what would come next, whether I was on the right part of the guitar neck or whether I was making any sense at all and this gentleman would just go like this (::pumps fist::). It would bring me right back to the confidence to continue sort of exploring and searching and I just want to thank you. I want you to follow me around in life!”
