Joe Russo’s Almost Dead shared pro-shot video featuring their take on the Grateful Dead repertoire favorite “New Minglewood Blues.” The footage comes from the House Of Blues in Dallas on September 12, 2019.
A rowdy rocker led by Bob Weir, who would often play slide guitar on the song, “New Minglewood Blues” was updated with slightly different names a few times and Bobby often changes up the lyrics on the fly to suit the city. The cover — originally penned by bluesman Noah Lewis who also wrote early Dead staple covers “Viola Lee Blues” and “Big Railroad Blues” — first appeared on the Grateful Dead’s 1967 self-titled debut as “New New Minglewood Blues” and appeared as “All New Minglewood Blues” on 1978’s Shakedown Street as per Dead.net.

As he usually does, JRAD guitarist Scott Metzger handles vocals on the Bobby tune. The song references Texas and JRAD detailed it as the “(T For Texas Edition)” of their Rad Tracks Wednesday series. Watch the 2019 Dallas performance below:
