Drummer Joe Russo (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) will be joined by bassist Mike Gordon (Phish), keyboardist Robert Walter (Roger Waters, The Greyboy Allstars) and guitarist Nick Bockrath (Cage The Elephant) at the third installment of his “This Is Gonna Be A Blast” concert series. The impressive quartet will play early and late shows at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn on January 23.
The first volume of “This Is Gonna Be A Blast” took place at The Sultan Room in October and consisted of two nights of improvisational-heavy concerts featuring Russo, Andrew Barr, Brad Barr and Marco Benevento. He returned to the venue last Thursday, March 14 for a second iteration which saw the drummer team with Stuart Bogie, Ben Perowsky, Jonathan Goldberger and Chris Morrissey. Josh Kaufman was originally supposed to take place in “The Return Of Boyfriends” show but fell ill and pulled out.

“Casting a wide net from different corners of my musical life for this one!” Russo wrote on Instagram yesterday in previewing the lineup announced today. While tickets for both shows sold out immediately after going on sale, fans can sign up for the waiting list via DICE.FM (Early Show, late show).
Joe Russo was Mike Gordon’s bandmate in a quartet known as “GRAB” that also featured Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and the drummer’s Benevento/Russo Duo partner Marco Benevento. Additionally, Mike performed a number of shows with the Benevento/Russo Duo. Joe’s musical relationship with Robert Walter has included touring with Robert Walter’s 20th Congress for a spell and teaming with the keyboardist and others for a few collaborative concerts. Nick Bockrath sat-in with Joe Russo's Almost Dead at a show in New Orleans held in May of 2018.
