The Raccoonists – Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and his sons Spencer Tweedy and Sammy Tweedy – covered The Beatles’ George Harrison for Aquarium Drunkard’s The Lagniappe Sessions. The family band also covered a song written by Alexander “Skip” Spence.
The Raccoonists previously issued the 2011 single “Own It” as part of a split 7-inch with Deerhoof. The newly posted tracks feature their arrangement of Harrison’s “Awaiting On You All” from All Things Must Pass based on the Early Takes: Volume 1 version. They also covered Spence’s “Broken Heart.” The Tweedys shared the following regarding their The Lagniappe Sessions recordings:
We like to record the way some families like to play catch or go to the movies. It’s just kinda something we do. But we usually play our own songs or just make stuff up, so this session is the first time we really set out to cover songs we love.
