Saxophonist Jeff Coffin today launched a Kickstarter project to help fund the release of his big band album Inside of the Outside which he recorded with Caleb Chapman’s Crescent Super Band and several other guest musicians. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Cuba National School of the Arts.

Other guests who appear on the record include his former Bela Fleck & The Flecktones bandmate, bassist Victor Wooten; saxophonist Branford Marsalis; trumpeters Randy Brecke, Rashawn Ross (who joins Coffin in Dave Matthews Band), Robertico Garcia of Buena Vista Social Club and Chucho Valdes pianist ‘El Peje’ Juan Carlos Rojas

Here’s the Kickstarter project is described:

In March Jeff, Caleb, and the band recorded the first two tracks of the album in Havana, Cuba, along with several fantastic Cuban musicians. The remaining tracks will be recorded on June 16-19 in Utah. Final mixing and mastering will be completed in July for a September or October release. To complete this project we need to raise a minimum of $10,000. By backing this Kickstarter project, you will help cover the cost of recording the remaining tracks, mixing and mastering of the album, printing/packaging of the actual CD and distribution of the album. Then all the proceeds from the album go toward supplying the young Cuban music students with instruments and other music tools they need. SO by helping this album become a reality, you’re directly giving those in need an opportunity they wouldn’t have otherwise.

Coffin is offering a host of rewards for the various payment tiers offered in the Kickstarter. Among the rewards are a private saxophone lesson with Coffin, a private VIP lunch with Coffin and Chapman, a Breedlove guitar signed by the entire Dave Matthews Band and much more.
