Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s summer tour rolled into The Factory in Chesterfield, Missouri near St. Louis on Thursday. The band unveiled a cover of Roxy Music’s “More Than This” to kick off their three-song encore.
Guitarist Jason Isbell and company — guitarist Sadler Vaden, keyboardist Derry DeBorja, drummer Chad Gamble, multi-instrumentalist Will Johnson, and bassist Anna Butterss — launched the concert with “When We Were Close” off the band’s most recent studio album, 2023’s Weathervanes.

The band dipped heavily from their latest record, performing roughly half of the 13-track LP including favorites such as “King of Oklahoma,” “Strawberry Woman” and “Cast Iron Skillet.” The setlist also included Isbell solo staples “Traveling Alone,” “Something More Than Free,” “24 Frames” and set closer “Cover Me Up.”
The encore got underway with the debut, as per SetlistFM stats, of the Roxy Music classic “More Than This.” The track originally appears on the influential English group’s final studio album, 1982’s Avalon. Isbell’s version was less new wave and more rock than the original with Isbell reeling off a pretty melodic solo before Vaden took over for a slightly edgier affair.

The concert came to a close with “If We Were Vampires” and Isbell’s Drive-By Truckers era favorite “Decoration Day.” Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit perform in Dubuque, Iowa tonight (August 9). Scroll down for the band’s tour routing and ticket info.
