Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Cover Tom Petty At The Ryman Opener

Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit began a six-night run of shows at Nashville’s The Ryman Auditorium on Monday evening. The concert’s encore featured the band adding another Tom Petty cover tribute to one of their setlists.

Isbell and his band made up of guitarist Sadler Vaden, keyboardist Derry deBorja, bassist Jimbo Hart, drummer Chad Gamble and Isbell’s wife, fiddler Amanda Shires were coming off a performance featuring a cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “American Girl.” That same night Isbell also offered a solo rendition of Petty’s “Even The Losers.”

Monday’s opener at The Ryman was capped with an encore that began with Isbell and The 400 Unit performing Petty and The Heartbreakers’ classic “Refugee.” The performance was captured by Heath Hatcher, watch the audience-shot video below:
