Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Play Rarities At Ryman

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s residency at Nashville’s historic The Ryman Auditorium continued with a performance on Wednesday night. The setlist for the fifth show out of the seven scheduled for this year’s run featured a few of Isbell’s rarely played songs.

After opening with “Hope the High Road” and working through several additional staples, the first setlist surprise came mid-set in the form of “Streetlights.” The song from the group’s 2009 self-titled album has been played live sparsely since 2014. Two songs later, Isbell led a performance of “If It Takes A Lifetime” from his 2015 album Something More Than Free, which fell out of the band’s regular live rotation this year. “We’ve Met,” from Isbell’s 2011 album Here We Rest, served as the final rarity of the night (Setlist.fm stats indicate it was last played live in 2012).

The set ended with “Cover Me Up” and “Super 8.” The encore consisted of the band’s recently debuted cover of Dire Straits’ “Brothers In Arms” and “24 Frames.” Isbell’s Ryman residency continues on Friday. Check out scenes from the front row via laureneleonard:
