Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit tapped Brittney Spencer and John Paul White to contribute to a cover of Gladys Knight & The Pips’ 1973 hit “Midnight Train To Georgia.” The song is one of 13 covers featured on the all-star Isbell and The 400 Unit Georgia Blue album with ties to the state due out via Southeastern Records on October 15.

Isbell brought up the idea on election day last year when he tweeted, “If Biden wins Georgia I’m gonna make a charity covers album of my favorite Georgia songs- REM, Gladys Knight, Vic Chesnutt, Allmans, Cat Power, Precious Bryant, Now It’s Overhead, etc… And damn is that gonna be fun.” Proceeds from the benefit album will go towards nonprofit organizations Black Voters Matter, Fair Fight and Georgia STAND-UP.

Georgia Blue was previously previewed with a take on R.E.M.’s “Driver 8” featuring Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit with John Paul White. Amanda Shires, Adia Victoria, Brandi Carlile, Julien Baker, Bèla Fleck, Chris Thile, Steve Gorman and Peter Levin also contributed to the album.
