Japanese Breakfast previewed their upcoming fourth album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The band fronted by primary songwriter Michelle Zauner performed the pending album’s lead single, “Orland In Love.”
Dead Oceans will release For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) on March 21. Zauner recorded the album with acclaimed producer Blake Mills at Sound City in Los Angeles, making it the first Japanese Breakfast album made in a proper recording studio.

Japanese Breakfast will tour across North America and Europe this year in support of For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). The Melancholy Tour will be the band’s first tour in three years.
Lead single “Orlando In Love” was inspired by, “a riff on John Cheever’s riff on Orlando Innamorato, an unfinished epic made up of 68 ½ cantos by the Renaissance poet Matteo Maria Boiardo — the hero is a well-meaning poet who parks his Winnebago by the sea and falls victim to a siren’s call, his 69th canto (even in the lofty realm of classical myth Zauner has a soft spot for innuendo).”
