Japanese Breakfast’s founder Michelle Zauner brought her band to The Met Philadelphia for a hometown concert on Thursday night. The first of two performances in Philly featured a cover of “Playground Love” by French duo Air.
Japanese Breakfast’s Philly shows are the final leg of a tour supporting their recently released album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women). The setlist sourced nine songs from the record that came out in March via Dead Oceans.
The concert also featured the band’s frequently performed cover of “Boyish” by Little Big League. Later in the show, Japanese Breakfast covered the dreamy “Playground Love.” The song was recorded by Air for the 1999 feature film, The Virgin Suicides.
