Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay Joins The Fearless Flyers In Chicago

By Andy Kahn Sep 4, 2018 8:33 am PDT

The Fearless Flyers held their first live concert at Concord Music Hall in Chicago on Sunday night. The group’s initial performance was an official after party for the North Coast Music Festival and featured special guest Jay Kay of Jamiroquai joining the funk outfit.

Kay performed a NCMF headlining set with Jamiroquai prior to his guest spot at Concord Music Hall. The Fearless Flyers, which features Cory Wong and Mark Lettieri on guitar, Joe Dart on bass and Nate Smith on drums, also welcomed Dart’s Vulfpeck band mate Theo Katzman and frequent Vulf collaborator Antwaun Stanley at other points during their debut live performance.

Stanley augmented “Boogie On Reggae Woman” by Stevie Wonder, while Katzman was onstage for “MMMBop” by Hanson, “Controversy” by Prince and “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5. Kay’s guest spot, which included Stanley, was a take on the Bobby Hebb classic “Sunny.” Comedian Eric Andre came out to introduce The Fearless Flyers before the encore that consisted of “Cold Sweat” by James Brown and Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”
