Jack White Appears On Season Premiere Of ‘A Prairie Home Companion’

From 1974 to 2016 Garrison Keillor created and hosted the live radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion. Keillor has retired and designated Chris Thile of Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers to take over as host of the show. Thile made his debut as host last night at the sold out Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, where his guests included Jack White.

White led an acoustic combo he put together that included bassist Dominic Davis, fiddler/backing vocalist Lillie Mae Rische and pedal steel guitarist Fats Kaplin. The foursome played a four-song set that included renditions of The White Stripes’ “City Lights” and The Raconteurs’ “Carolina Drama.” Both of those tunes appear on the recently released Jack White Acoustic Recordings: 1998 – 2016.

Host Chris Thile joined White and the rest of the band on “Carolina Drama.” The set rolled out with the country classic “(Margie’s At) The Lincoln Park Inn.” Jack White and Co. concluded their appearance with a duet between White and Margo Price on The White Stripes’ “I’m Lonely (But I Ain’t That Lonely Yet).” The entire episode can be streamed here, while video of three of White’s performances can be viewed below:
