Hawaii-based singer-songwriter Jack Johnson brought his All The Light Above It Too World Tour to Japan over the weekend for an appearance at this year’s Fuji Rock Festival. Jack Johnson and his band were joined by two members of Greensky Bluegrass for a pair of songs on Sunday.
Johnson, multi-instrumentalist Zach Gill, bassist Merlo Podlewski and drummer Adam Topol performed a 15-song set on the Green Stage at Fuji Rock ’18 yesterday. The quartet focused on material from 2005’s In Between Dreams including “Banana Pancakes,” “Better Together,” “Good People” and “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing.” Jack Johnson & Co. also fit in covers of John Holt’s “Time Is The Master” and “Badfish” by Sublime.
Mandolinist Paul Hoffman and dobro player Anders Beck of Greensky Bluegrass emerged towards the back end of Jack Johnson’s set. Hoffman and Beck added to “Big Sur” off Johnson’s 2017 studio album All The Light Above It Too as well as “Breakdown” from In Between Dreams. Greensky Bluegrass made their debut in Japan later in the day on the Fuji Rock Festival’s Field Of Heaven stage.
