Iron & Wine Sings ‘Albuquerque’ By Neil Young

By Scott Bernstein Sep 9, 2015 7:35 am PDT

On October 16 Iron & Wine, aka Sam Beam, will release the second volume of an archival series via Black Cricket Recording Co. Unlike Archive Series Volume No. 1, which was a full release featuring 16 home recordings, Archive Series Volume No. 2 is a single 7″ containing a pair of covers. NPR Music premiered one of the two covers from the forthcoming release – a take on Neil Young’s “Albuquerque.”

Beam’s version of the Tonight’s The Night gem was recorded before the first Iron & Wine album came out in 2002. The home recording of “Albuquerque” is a bit more upbeat than Young’s original. Sam’s voice fits the cover perfectly as he harmonizes with himself throughout aided by guitar and banjo. Take a listen:

A cover of The Four Tops’ “It’s The Same Old Song” is on the other side of Archive Series Volume No. 2.
