Last night Wilco launched their 2016 European Tour with an appearance in Bergen, Norway at the Bergenfest music festival. The Chicago-based six-piece offered festival goers a 20-song set centered on material from their 2015 LP Star Wars mixed with selections from throughout their many other releases.

Though Jeff Tweedy and crew have forgone opening shows with a complete performance of Star Wars, the band still took to the stage to a recording of the LP’s opening track “EKG” and then proceeded to play the record’s next three songs in order – “More…,” “Random Name Generator” and “The Joke Explained.” The Yankee Hotel Foxtrot track “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” broke the string of recently debuted songs.

That wasn’t the last of Star Wars as the main set also saw performances of “Pickled Ginger,” “Where Do I Begin,” “Cold Slope” and “King Of You.” accounting for seven (eight counting “EKG”) of the new album’s 11 tracks. As expected, guitarist Nels Cline wowed with his solo on the Sky Blue Sky track “Impossible Germany” and he and Tweedy were propelled by bassist John Stirratt and drummer Glenn Kotche on the intense, krautrock-styled A Ghost Is Born song “Spiders (Kidsmoke).”

Wilco’s European Tour continues today with an appearance at the Norwegian Wood 2016 music festival in Oslo, Norway. View audience captured video of several songs performed at Bergenfest last night captured by Egil Mosbron below:
