Ibibio Sound Machine Brings The Nightime Dance Vibes ‘Live On KEXP’

Electronic afro-funk band Ibibio Sound Machine took the stage at The Triple Door in Seattle on October 10 to capture a Live on KEXP performance. The London-born outfit delivered a nine-song set in front of a live audience.

Ibibio Sound Machine released their full-length studio album, Pull That Rope, earlier this year and followed with The Black Notes EP in September. Ibibio Sound Machine, however, kicked off their Live on KEXP session with the title track from their 2022 LP, Electricity.

The band — frontwoman Eno Williams, Alfred Bannerman (Guitar), Max Grunhard (Sax), Tony Hayden (Synth, Trombone), Scott Baylis (Keys, Tpt), Jason Simpson (Bass) and Paul Jones (Drums) — then told the story of “The Talking Fish,” a cut off their 2014 self-titled debut album.

Ibibio continued to deliver bangers including “The Chant,” “Fire” and “I Need You To Be Sweet Like Sugar.” Following favorite “All That You Want,” the band wrapped the performance with the title track from their most recent LP, Pull That Rope.
