Ibibio Sound Machine is frontwoman Eno Williams, Alfred Kari Bannerman (guitar), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Jose Joyette (drums), Derrick McIntyre (bass), Tony Hayden (trombone, synth), Scott Baylis (trumpet, synth) and Max Grunhard (saxophone, synth).
The band detailed The Black Notes EP:
“Moments of joy and feeling grateful for the sun on your face. ‘Black Notes’ and ‘Honey Bee’ are two sides of a coin—soulful dance and an electronic take on highlife for 2024. Captain Planet’s funky Afro house remix take on “Pull the Rope” and Vanguard’s acid-tinged version of “Got to Be Who U Are” round out the selection.
Press materials for The Black Notes EP described the title track as “a surging choir, pulsating synths, and infectious beats, above which singer Eno Williams delivers one of her most rousing performances to date.”
