Holly Bowling Plays ‘Terrapin Station’ At Lockn’s Terrapin Porch Stage
By Scott Bernstein Aug 31, 2017 • 2:01 pm PDT

This year’s Lockn’ Festival saw the debut of the Terrapin Porch Stage which hosted performances in the morning, early afternoon and late night. Pianist Holly Bowling played a set at Lockn’s Terrapin Porch on Saturday morning and fittingly encored with “Terrapin Station.”
Holly opened her set with solo piano renditions of Phish’s “The Horse,” “Silent In The Morning” and “Fast Enough For You.” Bowling then turned her attention to the Grateful Dead’s repertoire for “Althea” followed by “Lost Sailor.” Instead of segueing “Sailor” into “Saint Of Circumstance,” the pianist threw in “Bird Song.” After “Theme From The Bottom,” Holly finally played the missing “Saint.”
Bowling’s encore was a 30+ minute rendition of “Terrapin Station” featuring the entire suite found on the 1977 studio album minus the drum portions. Holly was taken by surprise when the crowd chimed in to sing the “inspiration” line ahead of her concluding the song and performance.
