Holly Bowling Offers Solo Piano Cover Of Phish’s ‘The Curtain With’

Pianist Holly Bowling just concluded a Fall Tour with two nights at the Pittsburgh Winery in Pittsburgh. Holly continues to dig through the Phish repertoire for classics to interpret and on Wednesday night she served up a stirring rendition of “The Curtain With.”

Phish debuted “The Curtain With” on August 9, 1987 and played it frequently through the following summer. After a performance during the band’s first trip to Colorado in 1988, they shelved the tune though they played “The Curtain,” a version of the song without its blissful, “Rift”-like guitar solo at the end fairly regularly. On July 12, 2000 Phish brought back “The Curtain With” after a layoff of 1,178 shows. They’ve since performed it 17 times with the most recent version played at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on August 31, 2014.
