Happy Birthday Stevie Ray Vaughan | All-Star Sailin Shoes

By Scott Bernstein Oct 3, 2014 10:50 am PDT

One of the best blues-rock guitarists to live on this earth, Stevie Ray Vaughan, was born on this day in 1954. Vaughan passed away in a tragic helicopter accident in 1990, but his sound and legacy lives on in many of the guitarists who have followed in Stevie’s footsteps. We can only imagine the music Vaughan would’ve gone on to make had he not boarded the helicopter on that fateful night.

We want to celebrate what would’ve been Stevie’s 60th birthday by sharing a phenomenal cover of Little Feat’s “Sailin’ Shoes” featuring Vaughan as part of an all-star band that also included Chaka Khan, Maria McKee, Rosemary Butler, Omar Hakim, Arnold McCuller, Hiram Bullock, David Sanborn and Van Dyke Parks. This fantastic version of “Sailin’ Shoes” aired on an episode of Sanborn’s short-lived Night Music program on NBC. Check it out:
