Happy Birthday Maceo Parker: With Dave Matthews Band In Chicago In 1998
Renowned saxophonist Maceo Parker today celebrates his 74th birthday. His funk-fueled career includes stints performing with James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic, Prince and other well-known musicians. One of those rare talents for whom a single name is enough for everyone to know who’s being talked about, Maceo has long been a true ambassador of funk music.
For Maceo’s Valentine’s Day birthday, here’s a look at a special guest appearance he made with Dave Matthews Band back in 1998 at Chicago’s United Center. DMB welcomed Maceo to sit-in on December 17 in Ames, Iowa and again on December 18 at The MARK of the Quad Cities in Moline, Illinois. The veteran saxophonist was also in the Windy City on December 19 for the band’s final show of the year.
All three guest-spots saw Maceo adding his signature funky sax lines to “What Would You Say,” while dropping a little “Carol Of The Bells” into his solos.
