Happy 75th Birthday George Clinton: Parliament-Funkadelic Live On Halloween 1976
By Andy Kahn Jul 22, 2016 • 3:33 pm PDT

Iconic musician George Clinton celebrates his 75th birthday today. The innovative force behind the development of funk rock music as the Parliament-Funkadelic bandleader, Clinton’s signature style can still be seen regularly on stage as the veteran performer continues to tour around the world. Tonight (this afternoon in the U.S.), a special concert is being held at Club Paradiso in Amsterdam (which was webcast for free thanks to nugs.tv).
For George’s birthday, this installment of Full Show Friday focuses on a Parliament-Funkadelic concert that took place on October 31, 1976 in Houston, Texas. It didn’t need to be Halloween for the band to assume their typically colorful costumed stage attire for the show at The Summit. Clinton was joined by late keyboardist Bernie Worrell, as well as guitarists Michael Hampton, Garry Shider and Glenn Goins, bassist Cordell Mosson, drummer Jerome Brailey, a horn section featuring Fred Wesley on trombone, Maceo Parker on saxophone, Richard Griffith and Rick Gardner on trumpet and backing vocalists Fuzzy Haskins, Grady Thomas, Calvin Simon, Ray Davis, Debbie Wright and Jeanette Washington.
Along with wild onstage props and theatrics – including a flying spaceship – the P-Funk Earth Tour set saw such classic funk compositions as “”Do That Stuff,” “Mothership Connection (Star Child),” “Dr. Funkenstein,” “P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up),” “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)” and others.
