Guns N’ Roses Officially Kick Off Reunion Run In Las Vegas

Last night, Guns N’ Roses officially started a run of reunion shows with the first of two performances at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The band played an intimate warm-up show in West Hollywood a week prior, but on Friday showed off their full production and a longer set in front of over 19K in Sin City.

Coming into the night, the big news that broke on Friday afternoon was that frontman Axl Rose had broken a bone in his foot. The show went on with Rose borrowing a throne Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl used on stage after he broke his leg last June. At first the Foo Fighters logo on the throne was covered up, but it was unveiled during the encore. Axl thanked Grohl a handful of times throughout GN’R’s performance. Rose was joined by guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan from the band’s classic Appetite For Destruction era lineup as well as keyboardist Dizzy Reed, drummer Frank Ferrer, guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Melissa Reese.

GN’R opened with “It’s So Easy,” one of seven Appetite For Destruction gems they would perform which also included “Mr. Brownstone,” “Welcome To The Jungle,” “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” The band also worked in plenty of tunes from both Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II such as “November Rain,” “Double Talkin’ Jive,” “Coma” and “Civil War.” Guns N’ Roses used the end of Derek & The Dominos’ “Layla,” featuring Axl on piano, as an introduction to “November Rain.” All told, the band rolled through nearly two dozens songs and ended the night with a “Patience”/”Paradise City” encore. The group’s Vegas run ends tonight at the T-Mobile Arena.
