Guns N’ Roses Kick Off Not In This Lifetime Tour In Detroit: Setlist & Videos
By Scott Bernstein Jun 24, 2016 • 8:07 am PDT
After a handful of performances in the spring, rockers Guns N’ Roses began the Not In This Lifetime North American Tour last night at Ford Field in Detroit. Founding members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan were joined by guitarist Richard Fortus, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese and drummer Frank Ferrer as the backing band for the tour.
While Axl needed to use Dave Grohl’s throne for most spring performances, he was back on his feet in Detroit and showed off some of his dance moves. As expected, the setlist leaned heavily on material from 1987’s Appetite For Destruction with “Paradise City,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle” among the nine songs from the LP played in Detroit. There were also a handful of covers thrown in such as The Stooges’ “Raw Power,” The Who’s “The Seeker,” Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” and Wings’ “Live & Let Die.” McKagan honored Prince by putting The Purple One’s symbol on his bass. In a change from GN’R’s earlier days, the band took the stage right around the time they were scheduled to begin and played for nearly two-and-a-half hours.
Guns N’ Roses continues the tour on Sunday in Washington, D.C.
