Electric Forest :: 6.24.16 :: Double JJ Ranch :: Rothbury, MI
This year’s installment of the Electric Forest festival continued on Friday in Rothbury, Michigan. EForest regulars The String Cheese Incident headlined the action and as usual welcomed special guests. GRiZ added to a cover of “Cold Sweat” by James Brown, while trumpeter Russ Liquid added to “Impressions.” SCI nodded to the late Bernie Worrell with a cover of Talking Heads’ “This Must Be The Place” and debuted their take on “Cake By The Ocean” by pop star Joe Jonas’s DNCE within “Rosie.”
Elsewhere, New Orleans act Dumpstaphunk got the day started in a funky way, while Nahko & Medicine For The People showed off a new violinist and bassist. STS9 focused on favorites such as “Inspire Strikes Back,” “Moonsocket” and “Kamuy.” GRiZ was greeted by a huge crowd for a surprise set with NGHTMRE and Papadosio ended the night with a 30 minute continuous jam, Preservation Hall Jazz Band welcomed The Suffers and Ivan Neville for guest appearances and The Soul Rebels were joined by Talib Kweli and GZA.
