Greensky Bluegrass Welcomes Fruition For Led Zeppelin Cover & More In Anaheim

Michigan’s Greensky Bluegrass continued fall tour on Saturday night at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, California. Fruition opened and members of the band wound up joining GSBG for the evening’s encore.
Greensky kicked off their first of two sets with a cover of Dire Straits’ “Money For Nothing,” a song that had been on the shelf since May. The band dug a little deeper for the first “Depot Bay” since March and the tour’s initial “Broken Highways” before ending the frame with a heaping helping of staples including “Just To Lie,” “Worried About The Weather,” “Blood Sucking F(r)iends” and “Don’t Lie.” Saturday’s “Don’t Lie” showed off the band’s improvisational prowess over the course of 18 minutes.
The night’s second Greensky set began with “A Letter To Seymour” and continued with the tour’s first “New Rize Hill” and a cover of Bill Monroe’s “I’m Working On A Building.” Up next was “Run Or Die” ahead of just the second “Tuesday Letter” since January. GSBG then treated Campers to a rendition of The Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle With Care” and later worked “Broke Mountain Breakdown” into “Before Bring Out Your Dead” and of course “Bring Out Your Dead.”
GSBG ended the night by bringing out all of Fruition with the exception of the band’s bassist, who was running sound, for a pair of songs. Kellen Asebroek, Mimi Naja, Tyler Thompson and Jay Cobb Anderson added to the pretty “Wings For Wheels” and an electric cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” The Zeppelin tune was the evening’s biggest bust out as it was last played by Greensky on September 24, 2016.
