Greensky Bluegrass Writes State Of The Union Setlist In Cleveland

Greensky Bluegrass looked to last night’s State Of The Union address for inspiration during their show at Cleveland’s House Of Blues. Dobro player Anders Beck titled the setlist for the night the Greensky State Of The Union Address and each set contained subtle and not-so-subtle commentary on the current political climate.
The GSBG SOTU first set closed with back-to-back overtly political covers: “White House Blues” by Charlie Poole and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” Prior to that the band worked in such open-for-interpretation selections as “Burn Them,” “Lose My Way,” “Do Harm,” “Fixin To Ruin,” “All For Money,” “Take Cover” and “Broken Highways.”
Set two in Cleveland began with “It’s Not Mine Anymore” from their recently issued studio album All For Money. Other seemingly pointed tunes included “Just To Lie,” “Hold On” and a cover of The Police’s “Driven To Tears.” The set continued with “Blood Sucking F(r)iends” which segued into Flatt & Scrugss’ “Doin’ My Time.” Greensky also took “No Idea” into a bust out cover of The Beatles “Help!” and closed the second set with “Run Or Die.” Grand Funk Railroad’s patriotic anthem “We’re An American Band” filled the encore slot and brought the show to an end.
