Full Show Audio: Greensky Bluegrass Plays Recent Album As First Set & Cover-Focused Second Set In Aspen

This past September Michigan jamgrass act Greensky Bluegrass released their latest studio album, Shouted, Written Down & Quoted. On Wednesday night, the band re-created the album by performing each song in the order they are found on the LP at the Belly Up in Aspen, Colorado as the evening’s first set. GSBG went the complete opposite route by focusing on covers for the second set.

It was soon after Greensky opened with “Past My Prime,” “While Waiting” and “Run Or Die” that fans started to realize what was going on. The band treated the capacity crowd to a complete live performance of Shouted, Written Down & Quoted from start to finish.

GSBG returned for the second set and used the fitting “Casual Wednesday” opener to lay the groundwork for eight covers in a row. They began with “One Way Out,” a song The Allman Brothers Band popularized, and continued with Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved.” From there, the group reeled off songs by J.J. Cale, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Billy Joel and Prince before the closing stanza was through. Greensky ended the evening by dusting off their cover of Eddie Rabbitt’s “Drivin’ My Life Away” and performing “Kerosene” as the encore.
