Greensky Bluegrass Teams With The Lil’ Smokies In Dallas: Full Show Audio

Greensky Bluegrass wrapped a three-show swing through Texas on Saturday with a gig at the Granada Theater in Dallas. The Michigan-based band was joined by their opening act The Lil Smokies for a pair of covers to help close out their evening in The Lone Star State.

The jamgrass act opened up the night with “Just To Lie” from their 2008 release Five Interstates. Next up the quartet looked to a pair of covers from the opposite end of the musical spectrum. First up came a string band rendering of Billy Joel’s “Big Shot” from 1978’s 52nd Street. Then Greensky delivered a take on the Townes Van Zandt classic “White Freight Liner Blues.” Later in the set, the band dug in on a lengthy take on the traditional bluegrass instrumental “Broke Mountain Breakdown” that segued into the rarity ” What Happened To Jim,” which was played for just the third time this year.

“In Control” was tapped to open up the second frame of the night. A take on Joshua Davis’ “Last Winter In Copper County” came ahead of the pairing of “Blood Sucking F(r)iends” > “Demons.” Setlist staples “Like Reflections,” “Bone Digger” and “Burn Them” helped fill out the stanza. Andy Dunnigan, Matt “Rev” Rieger, Jake Simpson and Matt Cornette of The Lil’ Smokies emerged for the last two songs of the set for a “Cluster Pluck.” The members of the two acts teamed up for a take on the traditional song “I’m Working On A Building” and J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight.” Listen to full show audio taped by Don Olker below:
