Greensky Bluegrass :: 10.06.18 :: The Capitol Theatre :: Port Chester, NY
Greensky Bluegrass hit the penultimate show of their 14-date early fall run on Saturday. The Michigan-based string band pulled into the New York City suburb of Port Chester for a show at The Capitol Theatre that featured an opening set from The Lil Smokies. The five-piece act showcased selections from their catalog along with a number of covers and a sit-in from a pair of members from their opening act. Greensky Bluegrass highlighted their opening frame with takes on “Before Bring Out Your Dead,” “Bring Out Your Dead” and “A Letter To Seymour” along with takes on The Traveling Wilburys’ classic “Handle With Care” and the spiritual “Jesus On The Mainline.” Andy Dunnigan and Jake Simpson of The Lil’ Smokies helped them close out their first set lending a hand on a cover of The Miracles’ “Second That Emotion” and Greensky’s “Worried About The Weather.” The quintet’s second stanza saw them dig in on the likes of John Hartford’s “Steam Powered Aeroplane,” Bill Monroe’s “Wheel Hoss” and the pairing of “Tarpology” > “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox.”
