This fall, San Francisco NBC affiliate KNTV has been broadcasting a new show called The Faithful about fans of the San Francisco 49ers. Sunday night’s episode, The Grateful Faithful, documents Grateful Dead/Furthur guitarist Bob Weir’s love of the football team.

The episode starts with a look at the formation of the Grateful Dead and how the band got their name. Longtime GD publicist and writer Dennis McNally also gives insight on what separated the band from their peers. Weir then discusses his brief football career, the connection between being in a band and being on a sports team. Bobby’s interview for the show was filmed a while back as he talks about being on the road with Furthur and that the prior weekend he had toured with RatDog.

Head to 49ers.com to stream the entire episode. As a reminder, Weir is scheduled to sing the National Anthem with Phil Lesh and Tim Flannery before this afternoon’s San Francisco Giants playoff game at AT&T Park.
